Tripura police arrest Maharashtra youth with gold

Tripura Police have busted an international gold smuggling racket with the arrest of a Maharashtra youth and recovered four gold bars worth Rs.1.2 million, an official said Tuesday.

"Acting on a tip-off, we arrested Anand Tulsi Roy Thurat, 32, from a hotel in Agartala Monday night. The youth purchased the gold bars weighing 700 gram from Bangladesh`s capital Dhaka and entered India Monday," Deputy Superintendent of Police (Central) Harimohan Das told reporters.
He said that after preliminary interrogation, police handed over Anand, a resident of Sangli district of Maharashtra, to the customs to unearth the racket behind the illegal gold trade.
