Tripura has secured the top
position in implementation of National Rural Employment
Guarantee Act (NREGA) during the 2009-10 financial year.
Rural Development minister Jitendra Chowdhury today
said this has been possible due to people`s participation in
the national flagship programme.
He also stressed on the need to create immovable
assets to boost the rural economy.
Chowdhury also criticised Centre for delay in
releasing funds meant for NREGA. "Rural Development ministry
had sanctioned an outlay of Rs 957 crore for 2009-10 but the
state has received only Rs 725 crore. A total of Rs 232 crore
is yet to be cleared," he said.
Chowdhury also said Tripura has received only Rs 400
crore of total outlay of Rs 1049 crore during the current
financial year (2010-11).
