Tripura tribal body polls end peacefully

Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) went
off peacefully today.
"More than 75 per cent of voters exercised their
franchise and no untoward incident was reported from any part
of the tribal council," DIG Police Control Nepal Das said.
A total of 162 candidates, including 10 women, have
been in the fray and and photo identity cards were made
compulsory for 6,37 lakh voters of the council.

"The 856-km Indo-Bangla border was sealed to avoid
entry of any untoward elements from the neighbouring country
and night curfew has been clamped in sensitive border areas,"
Director General of Police Pranay Sahaya said.
Left Front had won the last elections to TTAADC which
was formed in 1987 under the Sixth Schedule of the
Constitution to safeguard the socio-economic interest of the
tribals who form one-third of the state`s 35 lakh population.
