Agartala: Two Border Security Force (BSF) jawans were arrested for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old tribal girl in Tripura, police said here Friday.
"Two BSF jawans molested a tribal girl Thursday at bordering village Simna. The girl lodged a complaint in this regard with us," a police officer said.
Other BSF troopers posted at Simna border outpost (BOP) were transferred elsewhere, the officer said.
Agitated villagers gheraoed the BOP demanding punishment for the accused BSF personnel.
West Tripura district magistrate Abhishek Singh and district police chief Bijoy Nag rushed to the spot and pacified the angry crowd.
"After the arrest of the two accused jawans and transfer of the entire group of BSF personnel of Simna BOP, the agitation was withdrawn late Thursday night," the official added.
In another incident, an auto-rickshaw driver and his friend were arrested by police for allegedly raping a married woman here Thursday.
They gave a drug-laced soft drink to the woman and when she became unconscious, both the men raped her in a hotel.
