Two permanent judges for Guwahati High Court

New Delhi: Two Additional Judges were on Friday elevated as Permanent Judges of the Guwahati High Court.

Law Ministry notifications said Justice Arun Chandra Upadhyay and Justice Chitta Ranjan Sarma have been elevated as Permanent Judges.

Justice Upadhyay (60) joined the Bar in 1976. He practiced mainly in the Guwahati High Court and the district courts in Kamrup.

He was holding the post of Secretary, Judicial Department of the Assam government at the time of his appointment as Additional Judge of the Guwahati High Court in December, 2008.

Justice Sarma (57) enrolled as an Advocate in 1977 and started practice in the Guwahati High Court. He was sworn in as Additional Judge of the Guwahati High Court in December, 2008.
