ULFA militant killed in encounter

A self styled platoon commander of 709 battalion of the banned ULFA was killed in an encounter with security forces in Assam`s Kokrajhar district today, police said.

Guwahati: A self styled platoon
commander of 709 battalion of the banned ULFA was killed in
an encounter with security forces in Assam`s Kokrajhar
district today, police said.

The encounter took place when a joint team of army and
acting on a tip off launched a massive operation at Moktai
village under Gosaigaon police station on Assam-West Bengal
border.

Three militants hiding in the area fired upon the
security forces in a bid to escape and in the heavy exchange
of fire that followed one ultra was killed. The two others
managed to escape, the police said.

An US made 9 mm pistol, a magazine and four rounds of
live ammunition were seized from the slain militant, police
added.
