The woman was found on Sonam Tshering Marg commonly known
as Kazi Road at around 4:30 pm yesterday, Superintendent of
Police, East, Dr M S Tulsi said Wednesday.

Based on her complaint, police arrested two accused,
Bikash Bariley and Phurba Tamang, last evening and registered
a rape case against them, police said.

On regaining consciousness, the woman told the police
that she had been sexually assaulted by the duo, the SP said
adding that the victim went through a medical examination and
the police were awaiting the medical reports due today.

Meanwhile, in another incident, 21 year old Sagar
Tamang, arrested on rape charges a few days prior to Dusshera,
escaped from police custody yesterday giving his guards the
slip when he was brought to the Namchi District hospital
in South Sikkim for health check-up following complaints of
ill health, police said.

He was currently under judicial custody at the district
jail.
Tamang, who hails from Pipaley in West Sikkim, is facing
charges under Section 376 of the IPC for rape.

Superintendent of Police, South, Manoj Tiwari, while
confirming the escape, informed that the guards were posted at
the door and that the accused managed to jump down two-
storeys and made good his escape.

All police stations and check-posts have been put on the
alert, the SP said.
