Workshop to reduce earthquake risk in hospitals held

A workshop to identify and reduce earthquake risk in hospitals from non-structural elements was organised here today by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

Guwahati: A workshop to identify and
reduce earthquake risk in hospitals from non-structural
elements was organised here today by the Assam State Disaster
Management Authority (ASDMA).

The workshop emphasised on identification of various
hazards and understanding the various options available to
mitigate these hazards such as anchoring and bracing medical
equipment.

Personal preparedness and structural and non
structural risk mitigation measures which can be undertaken
during any major emergency were also discussed at length in
the workshop, an official release said.

It also focussed on how hospital administrators could
help reduce their hospital`s earthquake risk, including earthquake damages to their equipments.

The workshop was organised by ASDMA under Government
of Indian and UNDP Disaster Risk Reduction Project, in
association with Geo Hazard Society.
It was attended by 61 participants representing
various medical facilities from all over the state and
conducted by National Coordinator of Geo-Hazard Society Hari
Kumar.
