After SC blow, Naseer gets Orissa HC jolt
Bollywood filmmaker Naseer Khan, the alleged kingpin of Balasore chit fund case, received yet another jolt when Orissa HC Court refused to entertain his fresh bail bid.
Cuttack: Close on the heels of the Supreme Court cancelling his bail, Bollywood filmmaker Naseer Khan, the alleged kingpin of Balasore chit fund case, received yet another jolt when Orissa High Court refused to entertain his fresh bail bid.
Apprehending that Orissa crime branch police would arrest him again after the apex court ruling on December 2, the `kingpin` of the Rs 500 crore multilevel marketing frauds had approached the HC through his counsel seeking bail.
But a single judge bench of Justice S C Parija refused to hear his application yesterday saying it was not maintainable since a writ petition of the accused is still pending disposal in this court.
"In case the applicant seeks any relief from the court, he can do so by making a fresh affidavit in his original writ," the judge observed.
Incidentally, Naseer`s original writ application in which he has sought quashing of all the charges leveled against him by Orissa crime branch police and activation of his bank accounts was listed for hearing on the day. But the High Court adjourned the matter to be heard on January 5 next.
A division bench of the Supreme Court had earlier this month cancelled the bail to the Bollywood filmmaker which was granted by the Orissa High Court on October 20, 2009.
Naseer, a director of a Kanpur-based multi-level marketing company, is alleged to have duped crores of rupees from the public by promising attractive returns on their deposits.
