Bhubaneswar: Softening their stand,
anti-Posco agitators today agreed to cooperate with the
ongoing socio-economic survey at the plant sites in villages
near Paradip as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik promised to
visit the proposed project areas.

This was agreed upon at the first-ever meeting between
the Chief Minister and a delegation of Posco Pratirodh Sangram
Samiti (PPSS), a CPI-backed body opposing the South Korean
steel major`s proposed mega steel project for the last five
years.

"Let the survey work be completed, I will find an
appropriate time to visit the area," Patnaik told reporters
adding the agitators agreed for a peaceful survey of the plant
sites.

The Chief Minister said he would also listen to the
other groups demanding establishment of the Posco project.

"We are happy that the chief minister directly spoke
to agitators, though late. We agreed to the CM`s proposal of
allowing survey work in view of his assurance to visit the
area," PPSS president Abhay Sahu said.

Asked whether PPSS softened its stand in today`s
meeting, Sahu said: "We continue to demand shifting of
the project from the proposed site. But we want the CM to
personally see how an agrarian economy flourished in Dhinkia
area."
