Bhubaneswar: Lashing out at the UPA
government at the Centre for petrol price hike, Orissa Chief
Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday warned that the ruling BJD in
the state would launch an agitation against the increase as it
would hit the common people hard.
"The petrol price hike will be another heavy burden on
the common people," Patnaik told reporters, attacking the
Congress-led UPA for raising the fuel price.
"The BJD will certainly agitate over the matter," the
chief minister and BJD supremo said.
Protesting the petrol price increase and demanding
immediate roll back, activists of the students wing of the BJD
today staged a demonstration near the busy Raj Mahal square
area here shouting slogans against the Centre.
Claiming that the price of petrol had been raised nine
times during the last nine months, the protesters said it
would put enormous financial burden on common people.
The state unit of the BJP also hit out at the Centre for
the petrol price hike with senior party leader and former
state minister BB Harichandan saying that party workers would
hit the streets in protest against the price increase.
