Malkangiri (Orissa): Abduction of
Malkangiri district collector and a junior engineer by Maoists
has paralysed government functioning including the census
exercise in the district, official sources said on Friday.

Demanding safe release of Krishna, Malkangiri district
unit of All Orissa Non-Gazetted Officers` Coordination
Committee today said unless the duo was immediately released,
they would not perform any work including census.
In a memorandum submitted to additional district
magistrate Sundarlal Sil here, the Committee said all
government offices, schools, colleges and courts in the
district would remain closed indefinitely as a mark of
solidarity with the duo.

District collector R V Krishna and the junior engineer
Pabitra Majhi were kidnapped by Maoists during their visit to
Chitrakonda in the district on Wednesday evening.

The ADM said the memorandum was forwarded to the state
government.

Meanwhile, the district headquarter observed a
spontaneous bandh for the second day today with all the shops
and business establishments remaining closed though no call
for shut-down was given by anyone.
A large number of people today took a rally here
demanding safe release of the collector in which people from
all walks of life attended.
