Bhubaneswar: The Opposition Congress on Thursday claimed in the Odisha Assembly that the wife of a senior IAS officer had lodged a complaint of physical and mental torture against her bureaucrat husband and sought to know the steps taken by the government to provide her security.
The issue was raised by Congress Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati through a special mention during Zero Hour.
"Besides filing a case at the Women's Commission, the woman has also submitted a written complaint against her husband with the Chief Minister's Grievance Cell on December 5, 2014," Bahinipati said.
Stating that the woman in her complaint apprehended danger to her life, Bahinipati wanted to know from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who was also the state home minister, as to what steps were taken to ensure safety and security of the harassed wife of the senior bureaucrat.
"The IAS officer's wife in her complaint also wrote that she was subjected to both physical and mental harassment by her husband," the Congress leader said.
Bahinipati told reporters outside the House that the woman has shifted to another flat unable to bear the physical and mental torture allegedly inflicted by her husband.
According to the rules of business in Odisha Assembly, the government was supposed to reply questions raised through special mention by opposition members within 48 hours, officials in the Assembly said.
