Court sentences man to life imprisonment

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court for hacking a woman to death at a village in Odisha`s Balasore district two years ago.

Balasore (Odisha):A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court here for hacking a woman to death at a village in Odisha`s Balasore district about two years ago.

District judge V Jayshree while handing down the sentence to the accused Parikhita Dalei (60) yesterday also imposed a penalty of Rs 2,000. In default of payment, the convict would undergo additional two months of imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the accused of village Gobindapur had hacked one Santana Dalei (62) of the same village to death following an altercation over a minor issue on June 28, 2010.

The court after cross-examining eight witnesses and going through several relevant documents, pronounced the judgement.
