Huge quantities of adulterated products which include baby food, milk powder, edible ghee and pickle have been seized from a makeshift godown.

Cuttack: Huge quantities of adulterated
products which include baby food, milk powder, edible ghee and pickle have been seized from a makeshift godown here, police
said Wednesday.

Talcum powder, detergent and other products were also
seized from the godown and are now examining them with the
help of food inspectors to ascertain whether the talcum powder
and detergent were stacked for adulteration or as ingredients
of adulteration.

Police stumbled upon the adulterated items yesterday while investigating into a property theft case.

The godown was allegedly operational for over four
years while police have arrested two persons in this
connection and are looking for another key accused in the
case.

"We got to know about the illegal trade during our
investigation into a theft case in which rolls of poly-bags of
a reputed milk powder company of the locality were traced in
the godown," said police inspector Sunil Mohanty.
Godown owners Hrishikesh Naik, Chhabindra Naik are
booked under charges under several sections of theft, forgery,
cheating and imitation and police are also looking for another
Pravat Nath who is believed to be key accused in the case.

Meanwhile, police and other district civil supply
officials are now engaged in seizing the adulterated products
which have found their way into the markets through several
dealers.
