Durga Prasad Das, a resident of Tarito village under Kishorenagar police station area in Cuttack district, was nabbed by a special police team from Mundali near Cuttack.

Giving details, Kundu said the accused, during interrogation, has revealed that he was angry with the woman as she repeatedly rejected his proposal for marriage.

Finding her moving along the Mahanadi river bank alone in the evening of September 23, Das tried to rape her.

"The accused has admitted to have committed the crime alone and denied the involvement of any accomplice," the SP said. The medical examination of the accused will be done.

The accused was taken to the spot of the crime and revealed the sequence of events that led to the crime.
