Eight fresh cases of swine flu detected in Orissa

Eight fresh cases of swine flu were detected in several areas of Orissa on Saturday and sent to different hospitals, an official said.

Bhubaneswar: Eight fresh cases of swine flu
were detected in several areas of Orissa on Saturday and sent to
different hospitals, an official said.

"Of the total 17 swab samples tested today, eight were
tested positive to H1N1 virus. They were immediately rushed to
different hospitals," said Bikas Patnaik, the nodal officer
in-charge of health department control room here.

While five patients were admitted at government
hospitals, three were being treated at two private hospitals
here, he said.

Eight people have already succumbed to the killer
disease in the state.

"As the H1N1 virus carriers are being detected from
different places of the state, the state government has
decided to conduct a study using Global Positioning System
(GPS) to identify the area of infection," said T K B Patra,
one of the members of the Technical Committee monitoring the
spread of the disease.
