Four arrested in Cuttack contractors firing case

Cuttack: Cuttack city police arrested four persons and forwarded them to court in connection with the firing incident of Aug 22 here in which two young contractors had received bullet injuries.

Chauliaganj police of the city arrested Santosh Sahu (24), Kabindra Dhal (29), Subash Panda (21) and Nayan Mohanty (24) yesterday under various sections of IPC, including sec 307 (attempt to murder) charges and forwarded them to court.

Police have seized a car, a country-made revolver and three live bullets from the arrested persons.

Police said in connection with a tender-related dispute, the arrested four persons kidnapped contractors Sagar Swain and Sidharth Nayak from Nuabazar area of the city on August 22 afternoon.

After taking the duo to several places in a car, the accused first fired at Sagar near Jagatpur and deserted him over a river bridge. Then they took Sidharth near his home inside SCB medical college and campus and asked him to go home.

But as Sidharth ran towards his home, they fired at him from behind, police said adding both the contractors received bullet injuries. Both the injured are now recuperating in the hospital.
