Four women Maoists, carrying rewards of up to Rs four lakh on their heads, surrendered before the police here today, police said.

Malkangiri: Four women Maoists, carrying rewards of up to Rs four lakh on their heads, surrendered before the police here today, police said.

The women cadres identified as Jhine Padiami alias Rita, Walla Gangi alias Sakila, Kuma Khila and Singe Padiame alias Mase, surrendered in presence of Inspector General of Odisha Police (IG), Yashwant Jethwa, BSF IG A K Sharma and Malkangiri Superintendent of Police, Mitrabhanu Mohapatra.

The cadres were members of Kalimela and Baipariguda Dalam of the outlawed CPI(Maoist) and active in naxal activities for five to eight years, Jethwa said.

While Jhina carried a reward of Rs four lakh on her head, Walla carried Rs one lakh reward.

They would be rehabilitated as per the state government package for surrendered Maoists, Jethwa said.

Meanwhile, Jethwa said that he along with Sharma had visited the cut-off area along the Balimela reservoir to inspect the area of recent Police-Maoist encounter where at least seven ultras were suspected to have been killed.

However, the bodies were yet to be recovered.

Asked about the bodies, he said that Maoists generally bury the bodies and never allow them to be taken by the police.
