Hardcore Maoist surrenders

Rourkela: A hardcore Maoist, allegedly involved in at least 15 cases of murder and other offences, surrendered in Orissa`s Sundargarh district Thursday, police sources said.

The Maoist, identified as Rajesh Topo alias Rajesh Munda, surrendered in the presence of district collector Shalini Pandit, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Y K Jethwa said.

He was involved in at least 15 cases including murder, attack on police establishments, bank loot, extortion and explosions, police sources said.

He apparently decided to return to the mainstream as he was disillusioned with the style of functioning of the rebels and deviation from ideology.
