Local Congress leader shot dead in Ganjam

A local Congress leader was shot dead and another injured by unidentified gunmen in Orissa`s Ganjam district.

Berhampur (Orissa): A local Congress
leader was shot dead and another injured by unidentified
gunmen in Orissa`s Ganjam district.

The 42-year-old Congress leader Dillip Swain, a former
sarpanch of Balarampur, was shot dead, while another man
accompanying him was injured when they were returning home,
police sources said today.

The police recovered three bullets from the spot.

Old enmity might be the cause of the shooting,
Inspector in-charge of Baragada police station R C Thumb said.

The injured person was admitted to the MKCG Medical
College and Hospital here where his condition was stated to be
critical.

Angry over the incident, people staged a road blockade
at Sarangipalli, about 40 km from here demanding immediate
arrest of the culprits.

The blockade disrupted traffic between Aska and
Baragada.

The police also recovered the body with injury marks
of a 62-year-old man, L Kameya of Bandara village, near
Kalipali, about 20 km from here last night.
