Bhubaneswar: The Lokpal investigation report
on the nexus between criminals and government officials in
Orissa cannot be tabled in the state Assembly due to certain
restrictions, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has told the
House.
"There were restrictions under section 15 (4) of the
Orissa Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 1995, on the release and
presentation of the report before completion of certain
steps associated with the process," Patnaik said while
replying to a written question in the Assembly yesterday.

The Lokpal had submitted its investigation report on the
matter on August 27, 2008.

"The state government has been taking action against some
persons based on the Lokpal report," Patnaik said, adding, the
administration was yet to submit its Action Taken Report (ATR)
to the Lokpal.

Steps were being taken to expedite the action against
those persons, he said.

The state government had ordered a probe by the Lokpal
into the alleged nexus between criminals and government
officials on April 24, 2008, in the backdrop of the murder of
Biranchi Das, coach of the world`s youngest marathon runner
Budhia Singh, on April 13, 2008, after names of some police
officers and bureaucrats came into the picture during
investigation.
