Sambalpur: A man was killed during a confrontation with armed dacoits at Patrapali village under in Bargarh district, the police said Tuesday.
About six armed dacoits who looted cash and valuables from a house at Patrapali village on Sunday night were confronted by the villagers while returning, they said.
As the villagers tried to capture them, the dacoits opened fire in their bid to escape and a bullet hit Durlabha Seth (60), resulting in his death, sub-divisional police officer, N Dansana, said.
?The dacoits looted around Rs 70,000 and gold ornaments from the house. They had fired two rounds. One of the bullets hit Durlabha, who died in the incident," he said.
While the villagers had managed to capture one dacoit, special teams have been formed to nab the other miscreants. A scientific team and a dog squad had also visited the spot, the SDPO said.
