Bhubaneswar: Despite disruption of road
communication in many parts of southern Orissa, the one-day
bandh called by Maoists passed off peacefully in the state
today, official sources said.

The CPI (Maoist) had given a bandh call in protest
against the police firing on the activists of Chasi Mulia
Adivasi Sangh (CMSA) at Narayanpatna in Koraput district on
November 20, which had claimed two lives.

In Narayanpatna, the bandh was partial though buses
remained off the roads, sources said.

Train services were affected in some areas between
Koraput and Rayagada districts.

Normal life in some of the Maoist strong hold areas of
Kandhamal, Gajapti, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Ganjam
was affected, they said.

Transportation was affected in some parts of the
southern range due to the bandh, DIG (southern range) R P
Koche said adding that no untoward incident was reported.

A report from Kandhamal said, shops, commercial
establishments and some educational institutions remained
closed and vehicular traffic was off the road in Daringbadi,
Bamunigam, Simanbadi, Katingia, Gadapur and Sonepur areas.
