Maoist blow up two mobile phone towers in Orissa

Suspected Maoists blew up two mobile phone towers and ransacked a liquor shop in Orissa`s Malkangiri district early Thursday, police said here.

A large number of ultras stormed K-Guma village under
Orkel police station area, about 70 km from here, and
triggered explosions in quick succession to blow up the
towers, they said.

The red rebels, raising slogans against the state
government and police, also damaged a foreign liquor shop,
they added.

According to the police, the Maoists also tried to set
the shop on fire after dragging out two of the shop`s
employees and disappeared into the nearby forest.

Additional police personnel have been deployed in the
area after the incident, they said adding a combing operation
has been launched to trace the rebels and patrolling has been
intensified.
