Maoist killed in Odisha during encounter

A Maoist involved in several crimes was killed in a fierce encounter with district voluntary force (DVF) in Odisha`s Rayagada district.

Rayagada (Odisha): A Maoist involved in
several crimes was killed in a fierce encounter with district
voluntary force (DVF) in a dense forest of Odisha`s Rayagada
district, police said on Saturday.

The DVF was conducting a combing operation in the
forests in Hanumanthpur area under naxal-infested Chandrapur
block, about 140 km from here, when it came under heavy firing
from the Maoists last night.

Repulsing the attack, the police launched counter attack
and heavy exchange of fire continued in the area after which
one Maoist was found dead today, sub-inspector of the
Naxalite Cell of Rayagada district, Suresh Kumar Bal said.

Preliminary investigation showed the deceased was
Subash, a hardcore cadre Maoist, he said adding a large number
of arms and ammunition were seized from the forests.
Combing operation in the area had been intensified
after the incident, he said.
