Bhubaneswar: A Maoist was killed and five of
his associates were injured in a gun battle with security
personnel in Orissa`s Sundargarh district today, police said.

The incident came barely three days after a similar
encounter between the Maoists and security forces took place
at Narayanpatna in Koraput district.

"The body of a Maoist was recovered from a jungle at
Tirubeda in Sundargarh district this afternoon," Director
General (Intelligence) Prakash Mishra told PTI.

A single-barrel gun and four live cartridges were also
recovered from the spot.

A team of the state`s elite anti-Naxalite force, Special
Operation group (SOG) and CRPF jawans launched an operation at
Bisra adjoining Serenda jungle connecting Jharkhand last night
after receiving a tip-off on the presence of a Maoist camp
there.

Success came at about 4 pm today when the ultras fled
from the spot, a senior official said.
