Malkangiri: In unabated violence, armed Maoists destroyed a village panchayat building in Orissa`s tribal dominated Malkangiri district early Thursday, official sources said.
About 60 heavily armed rebels stormed into Materu in Padia area, around 55 km from here, in the wee hours and attacked the village panchayat office building, they said.
The ultras pulled down the structure using some heavy equipment apparently unable to set off landmine explosion due to rains, sources said adding the rebels were believed to be from neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
Important documents, records and furniture in the building were also set afire by the Maoists, who raised slogans against the government and anti-Naxal operations
undertaken by the security forces, they said.
The attack came two days after the ultras blew up the block office of Padia with the help of a powerful landmine in continuing operations against government buildings in the
region, they said.
