Keonjhar: Maoists gunned down
a home guard and a contractor in Orissa`s Keonjhar district
suspecting them to be police informers, police said today.
Around 30 gun-totting rebels stormed Rebana Palaspahad
village in Harichandanpur area, about 50 km from here, last
night and asked both of them to come out of their houses.
The victims, identified as home guard Kailash Mahanta
and contractor Tuna Behera, were taken to a nearby place
inside the village and shot dead by the ultras, who also set
afire a house before fleeing from the spot.
While Mahanta was killed as he was a home guard,
Behera was targeted as the ultras suspected him to be a police
informer, the sources said.
Behera had sought police protection about a week ago
alleging that he had been threatened by the Maoists.
Security personnel have rushed to the spot and
launched combing operation in the area.
