Bhubaneswar: Armed Maoists set ablaze equipment at a bridge construction site in Odisha`s Malkangiri district Sunday, a day after a contractor was killed by guerrillas in the region.

A group of 15-20 guerrillas attacked the construction site near MPV-22 (Malkangiri Pottery Village) in the Kalimela police station area and set equipment, including a mixture machine, on fire, Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Singh told IANS.

However, at least two labourers who were at the site when the attack took place were spared by the rebels, he added.

The attack comes a day after the rebels killed a contractor near Parsonpalli village in the same district.

Malkangiri, around 640 km from here, is considered a Maoist stronghold. Last month, the Maoist guerrillas killed two village guards in the district after kidnapping them.
