Mercury crosses 43 degrees in the state

Bhubaneswar: Orissa continued to swelter Wednesday, with the district headquarters town of Sonepur recording a maximum temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius, the day`s highest in the state, an official said.

Several places, especially in the western parts of the state, witnessed temperatures above 40 degrees, an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre said.

Places which recorded high temperatures included Titilagarh (43.2 degrees), Jharsauguda (43 degrees), Sambalpur (42.7 degrees), and Angul (42.1 degrees).

The coastal belt, however, remained cooler.

Beach towns of Puri, Gopalpur and Paradip recorded maximum temperatures of 33.5, 33.1 and 32.7 degrees Celsius, he said.

Mercury in state capital Bhubaneswar touched 37.8 degrees Celsius.
