Miscreants attack BJD candidate for BMC polls

Unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked a BJD candidate for Berhampur Municipal Corporation polls with sharp razors at Shastri Nagar.

Berhampur: Unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked a BJD candidate for Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls with sharp razors at Shastri Nagar here, police said on Monday.

"Two persons intercepted me and hurled abuses. As I tried to move away, they attacked me with blades on Saturday night," claimed Badrinarayan Nayak, who is contesting from Ward 13.

He, however, could not identify the duo as it was pitch dark.

Police have intensified patrolling in the area after the incident that took place late Saturday night. "Police personnel have been deployed near his house," said SP (Berhampur) Anirudh Singh.

A case has been registered and investigation is on, he added.

Nayak had recently joined BJD after quitting Congress and is up against his friend-turned-foe Dandapani Nayak in the urban polls. Dandapani is seeking re-election from the ward in the September 19 urban polls.
