MLA injured in road mishap

Susant Kumar Singh, a BJD MLA in Orissa, was seriously injured when the jeep in which he was travelling collided with a truck at Amlipani on NH-42 in Sambalpur district today, police said.

which he was travelling collided with a truck at Amlipani on
NH-42 in Sambalpur district today, police said.

Singh representing Bhatli assembly constituency in
Bargarh district was returning to his home town Sohela after
the assembly session when his vehicle had a head-on collision
with the truck in the wee hours.

The MLA was rushed to VSS Medical College Hospital at
Burla near here with multiple injuries and was operated upon
in the ear. Then he was referred to a private hospital at
Bhubaneswar for treatment, the sources said.

He was airlifted to Bhubaneswar by a private aircraft
from nearby Hirakud airstrip, official sources said.

There were six occupants in the jeep in which the MLA
was travelling. While the driver and two others were also
injured, the rest two suffered minor bruises, sources said.

The truck driver had fled the scene alongwith the
vehicle.
