Bhubaneswar: The much-awaited south-west
monsoon surged through vast parts of Orissa on Sunday with heavy
rains at many places, bringing respite from the long spell of
After hitting the state this morning, the monsoon
progressed to Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and
Balasore districts trggering heavy showers, the meteorological
centre here said.
Monsoon showers also lashed vast parts of several
other districts including Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Cuttack,
Jajpur and Mayurbhanj.
The state capital of Bhubaneswar also received heavy
downpour since morning, bringing much-needed relief from the
gruelling heat that sizzled the city and other places in the
state for last about one month.
"The conditions are highly favourable for further
advancement of the south-west monsoon to other parts of the
state," the met office said adding that the state was expected
to get normal rainfall.
The intensity of rainfall is likely to increase in a
couple of days.
