Naveen demands KBK plan approval, seeks PM`s intervention

Ahead of proposed visit of a Planning Commission member to Orissa`s KBK region, the state government on Wednesday demanded immediate approval of an 8-year perspective plan for overall development of the area.

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of proposed visit of a
Planning Commission member to Orissa`s KBK region, the state
government on Wednesday demanded immediate approval of an 8-year
perspective plan for overall development of the area and Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh`s intervention to expedite it.
"Though the state government had submitted the
perspective plan for speedy development of the backward KBK
region in January 2009, it was yet to be approved by the
Planning Commission," Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said in a
letter to the Prime Minister.

Patnaik`s letter was faxed to the PMO after the state
government came to know about Prime Minister`s instruction to
Planning Commission for a visit to the KBK region.

Singh issued the instruction after being informed by
Union Fertiliser and Chemical Minister Srikant Jena about
recent spread of cholera and other problems in the area.
Stating that effective implementation of Revised Long
Term Action Plan (RLTAP) and other special development
initiatives in KBK region have significantly attributed to
improvement of livelihood, poverty reduction and other human
development factors, Patnaik said the area required more
assistance.
