Odisha govt changes terms of reference of chitfund probe panel

Paving way for return of money to small investors from the corpus fund formed by it, the Odisha government has amended the terms of reference of the judicial commission probing the chit fund scam in the state.

Cuttack: Paving way for return of money to small investors from the corpus fund formed by it, the Odisha government has amended the terms of reference of the judicial commission probing the chit fund scam in the state.

Chairman of the commission Justice MM Das told reporters on Tuesday that besides the earlier terms, the state government has sought to identify the bonafide investors and the companies in which they have invested money and to suggest measures as to how smaller investors get back their money from the corpus fund.

The state government had last year set up the corpus fund of Rs 300 crore for the purpose.

Formed in July 2013, the Commission of Inquiry was revamped in February this year following the death of its head Justice RK Patra. Thereafter, Justice Das was appointed to head the one-man panel.

While the commission has received more than ten lakh affidavits, the process of digitalisation of these affidavits was now on to create a database for early compilation of the report, state government officials said.
