Huge quantities of government-supplied medicines were found in a private clinic in Berhampur during raids conducted by revenue, health and drug control officials.

Berhampur: Huge quantities of government-supplied medicines were found in a private clinic in Berhampur during raids conducted by revenue, health and drug control officials.

"We have found 18 varieties of antibiotics and injectable medicines, which were supplied by the government to its hospitals, from the private medical centre. The medicines are worth over Rs one lakh," said Drugs Inspector (Berhampur), S Biswal.

A case has been registered against the owner of the hospital, he said.

The district administration is also likely to take action against the owner of the hospital, said an officer, associated with the raid conducted on Friday.

The joint team raided four private clinics. The swoop was conducted to ascertain functioning of clinics and use of ultrasound machines, disposal of waste and whether they are following norms.

"Details about the functioning of the nursing homes will be known after thorough assessment of the reports of the raiding team," said Chief District Medical Officer, Mrutunjay Mishra.
