Odisha: Labourer held for raping tribal woman

A 22-year-old daily labourer was arrested for allegedly raping a tribal woman from Dumuripada in Kandhamal district, police said on Wednesday.

Berhampur: A 22-year-old daily labourer was arrested for allegedly raping a tribal woman from Dumuripada in Kandhamal district, police said on Wednesday.

The rape survivor's plight came to light after a doctor allegedly confined the tribal woman in her home and physically and mentally tortured her, they said.

"We will conduct a medical test on the man who was arrested yesterday. If necessary, a DNA test will also be conducted to ascertain the fact," Kandhamal Superintendent of Police, K V Singh said.

Earlier, police had on Sunday arrested the AYUSH doctor, Ambika Mohapatra (45), who worked at a health centre at Katringia in Kandhamal on charges of illegal detention and physical and mental torture of the pregnant woman.

The survivor alleged that the doctor made her work as a domestic help at her house at Patrapada near Phulbani and tortured her.
