Odisha sizzles at 44.5 deg C, heat wave conditions prevail

There was no respite from the gruelling heatwave conditions in Odisha with the mercury touching 44.5 degree Celsius at Sambalpur and many districts recording temperatures above 40 degree C on Monday even as the local MeT office predicted further rise in day temperatures.

"There are indications of the temperature reaching 45 degree C in the western region and about 44 degree C in the coastal belt," Sarat Sahu, director of IMD, Bhubaneswar said.
The weather office also warned that severe heatwave conditions was likely to prevail over Odisha in the next 48 hours. While Sambalpur recorded 44.5 degree C, other places in western Odisha districts like Titlagarh experienced 44 degree C, followed by Bhawanipatna and Balangir sizzling at 43 deg C. The state capital of Bhubaneswar recorded 39 degree C today, the MeT office said.
