Cuttack: Another policeman of the Cuttack-
Bhubaneswar Commissionerate has been arrested on charges of
robbing gold ornaments from two Gujarat traders, police said
Earlier the Mangalabag police of the city had arrested
two other constables and a city-based jewellery shop owner for
the same offence.
But although, the involvement of Sangram Naik was known,
his arrest was delayed as he was away in Jammu and Kashmir as
a member of a special police squad of the city investigating
into a kidnap case.
Sangram was arrested at Cuttack railway station by the
waiting policemen in plain cloths yesterday as soon as he
alighted from a train coming from New Delhi, said
Mangalabag police inspector P K Rath. Sangram was immediately
put under suspension after his arrest
Sangram along with two other constables Jagdish Prasad
Singh of Cuttack rural police and Prashant Pradhan of
Commissionerate police - had waylaid the Gujarat traders at
gunpoint to a jewellery shop and duped them about 362 gms of
gold ornaments on May 19.
Jewellery shop owner Tapan Moharana was also arrested
earlier and police had seized 326 gms of gold ornaments from
him and the remaining from the police constables who were
arrested on May 26.
