Berhampur (Orissa): Worried over spurt in
law and order problems due to land-related issues in various
places, the Orissa government on Tuesday asked district collectors
to sort out these problems particularly in scheduled areas.
I have asked the district collectors to solve
land-related problems in the scheduled areas immediately in a
mission mode, state’s Revenue and Disaster Management
Minister S N Patro said after inaugurating the collectors’ conference of southern revenue division districts here.
Apart from collectors of southern Orissa districts,
several revenue officers, revenue divisional commissioner
(southern division) attended the conference.
Land-related problems are acute in most southern
districts including Koraput, Malkanagiri, Rayagada,
Nabarangapur, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Kandhamal and
Ganjam.
Clashes due to dispute over land rights erupted in
several places in southern Orissa districts including
Narayanpatna in Koraput, Kasinagar in Gajapati, Sorada in
Ganjam time and again when tribals of the areas claimed that
non-tribals had taken away their lands forcibly.
I have also asked the collectors to restore the lands
of the tribal people in the scheduled areas if these were
forcibly taken away by the non-tribal people,? he said.
The law and order problem in these districts would be
solved, if land related problems were sorted out, the minister
said.
