movement launched by Anna Hazare, CPI activists on Thursday staged a

within the ambit of the proposed Lokpal legislation.
A large number of CPI workers took out a rally from
state party office here carrying flags and placards with
messages against corruption and the need to have a strong
Lokpal in the country.
Shouting slogans against the crackdown on Hazare and
his associates in New Delhi on Tuesday, the protesters, many
of whom donned Anna`s masks, staged a dharna at Rajmahal
square, disrupting traffic in the busy commercial area for
Addressing the demonstrators, CPI`s state secretary
Dibakar Nayak said the action against Hazare and his
supporters was undemocratic, violation of human rights and an
attempt to suppress the popular voice of the masses.
People have every right to launch peaceful agitations
and fast in a democratic country like India in order to
register their protest, he said.
Underlining the need for a strong Lokpal, Nayak said
the office of the prime minister should also be included
within the purview of the proposed Lokpal legislation in order
to prevent corruption at high places.
