Cuttack: Former minister Kamala Das, who
was sentenced to a jail term for corruption, was on Thursday granted
bail by the Orissa High Court.
Adjudicating an appeal by Das, a single-judge
comprising Justice B P Ray granted her regular bail which
means in the event of her arrest she would be released on
Das, a medical practitioner-turned-politician had
challenged the vigilance court verdict and declared that she
The Bhubaneswar-based vigilance court had convicted
her and sentenced her to rigorous imprisonment for two years
and fined her Rs 4000.
Das had allegedly obtained financial benefits of Rs 2
crore by abusing her official position as minister about nine
years ago in supply of iron fortified salt under Supplementary
Nutritional Programme and mid-day meal scheme.
