Bhubaneswar: The mother of the Pipili rape victim, who is undergoing treatment under tight security at SCB Medical College Hospital at Cuttack, on Friday expressed concern over the safety of her daughter and urged the National Commission for Women to save her.

"My daughter was raped and attempts were made to kill her as she became an witness to the rape of one of her friends in 2008," Kamala Behera told NCW member secretary Anita Agnihotri.

Agnihotri, who began probe into the alleged rape and attempt to murder of the 19 year-old Dalit girl yesterday, met Behera and other members of the family at Arjungada village today, official sources said.

The girl's mother also drew NCW's attention to the local police's refusal to accept the family's FIR after the incident and government hospital doctors allegedly avoiding to treat her.

The girl, she said, was first taken to government hospital at Pipli which referred her to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. The Capital Hospital in turn sent her to SCB Medical College Hospital from where she was discharged before she was cured.

She is now at the ICU of SCB Medical College Hospital since January first week following a direction by Orissa High Court direction.
