villagers openly opposing the proposed mega steel project as
the administration failed to carry forward land acquisition
process due to a road blockade.
The members of UAC headed by its president Anadi Rout
staged a road blockade at Gada Kujang preventing officials
from entering the proposed plant site villages for undertaking
"We have been protesting the administration`s act of
acquiring land before holding any discussion with villagers.
UAC also raises objection to the manner of measuring betel
vines," said UAC secretary Nirbhay Samantray.
Unable to convince villagers to end road blockade, the
administration held discussion with UAC members, sources said
adding land acquisition is likely to be resume tomorrow as
the administration is believed to be considering the demand
for modifying the method of measurement of betel vines.
A group headed by Nuagaon gram panchayat sarpanch
Bhaskar Swain dissociated from UAC accusing its leadership of
not working in people`s interest. The new faction - "Bhitamati
Surakshya Manch" would oppose the project, Swain said.
"We are happy, though late, people are realising
about adverse impact of the mega project over fertile land,"
