`Raped` nun seeks more time from court to record statement

Cuttack: A nun, who was allegedly raped
during the Kandhamal riot in 2008, today appeared before a
trial court here after several reminders, but expressed her
inability to record statement due to illness.

Accompanied by her lawyer, the 30-year-old nun arrived at
the court room and requested District Sessions Judge B K
Mishra to grant her some more time as she was unable to stand
on the witness box for deposition.

Her lawyer submitted a time petition requesting the court
to allow her more time.

Accordingly, the court accepted her petition and fixed
November 3 for deposition.

The nun was allegedly raped by a mob at K Nuagaon village
in Baliguda in Kandhamal on August 25, barely two days after
killing of the VHP leader Laxamananda Saraswati.

At least 11 persons had been arrested and remanded to
judicial custody for over a year. Though four of them managed
to get bail, seven others are still languishing in jail.

The crime branch of Orissa Police is probing the matter.
According to police, the nun had identified some accused in
three test identification parades.
