Ravenshaw digital library ransacked, rare treasures missing

Computer peripherals, rare and precious books, magazines, journals, songs and music stored in portable document format (PDF) were found missing from the digital library of Ravenshaw University here.

Cuttack: Computer peripherals, rare and
precious books, magazines, journals, songs and music stored in
portable document format (PDF) were found missing from the
digital library of Ravenshaw University here.
A case in this regard was filed by the university
authorities in local police station yesterday following
which police have begun investigating after detaining at least
five staff members of the library.

Key components of at least 27 computers like processors,
RAM and other hard discs were found missing from the library
which was first of its kind in the country set up in February
this year, University spokesman Viraj Shukla said.

About 80,000 songs and music and 60,000 textbooks,
reference books, journals and magazines stored in PD format
for educational purpose were looted after dismantling all the
computers of the library, he said.
Police suspect computer-savvy trespassers in connivance
with library staff have found their way into the library by
breaking open the window grills and decamped with the rare
treasures.
