Phulbani: Security arrangements have been made for peaceful Christmas celebrations in Orissa`s Kandhamal districts where riots had taken place in 2007 and 2008.
Security personnel have been deployed in strength at places of worship, prayer halls and Christian-inhabited areas, while streets were being patrolled, Superintendent of
Police S Praveen Kumar said.
There would be checking at all entry points to the tribal-inhabited districts, he said.
"Strict vigil is being maintained across the district which witnessed communal violence during Christmas in December 2007 and after the killing of VHP leader Laxmanananda
Saraswati in August 2008," a senior police official said.
Meanwhile, in relief for the administration, the Kui Samaj Seva Samiti (KSSS) has agreed not to hold any procession tomorrow following persuasion by officials.
KSSS has planned a procession and public meeting tomorrow to observe `Saheed Divas` marking the third death anniversary of a tribal who was killed in the riots at
Barkhama village in Baliguda block.
A rally and meeting would, however, be held at Barkhama, KSSS leader Lambodar Kanhar said.
