Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Tuesday placed two doctors under suspension and de-panelled another doctor in connection with the tubectomy operation allegedly conducted by using a cycle pump at a health camp in Angul district.
The doctors who were suspended are Additional Chief District Medical Officer (ACDMO) of Angul district Dr Shankarlal Agarwal and the Community Health Centre in-charge of Banarpal Dr Deepak Garnaik, said Angul District Collector Sachin Ramchandra Yadav.
The doctor who has been de-panelled was Mahesh Prasad Rout, who conducted operation on 56 women, he said.
It was alleged that the doctor used a cycle pump to pump air into abdomen of women undergoing tubectomy operation at Banarpal CHC in Angul district on November 28.
Dr Mahesh Prasad Rout had, however, defended the procedure, saying that they used a sterilised hand pump for the purpose and not the cycle pump.
In view of criticism from different quarters, the state government baned on all sterilisation camps after a high-level meeting on December 2.
The Centre and Odisha Human Rights Commission had sought a report from the state government on the issue.
