Two girls commit suicide over poor grades in Orissa

Frustrated at not getting expected marks in the examination, two girls allegedly tried to commit suicide in Sundergarh district, one of whom died and another is fighting for life in hospital.



Rourkela: Frustrated at not getting expected marks in the examination, two girls allegedly tried to commit suicide in Sundergarh district, one of whom died and another is fighting for life in hospital.
Reema Patel, daughter of Surendra Patel of Raidih village in Sundergarh district committed suicide after consuming pesticide when she failed to secure a good position in the High School Certificate Examination (HSCE), the result of which published on Sunday, police sources said today.

Reema`s father said her daughter has secured just 60 per cent in her matric exam and became frustrated as she was expecting good marks. She allegedly consumed pesticide kept in their home and started vomiting. She was rushed to hospital but died after few hours of treatment.
Another girl, Sanjukta Tete of Damakuda village of the district tried to commit suicide consuming clorocuine tablets after she failed to pass the matriculation exam.

Her condition, though declared out of danger was still critical, the district headquarter hospital sources said.
